I got this really nice piece of driftwood on ebay and it has been soaking for about 4 days so far, the water is nice n yellow, I plan on changing the water so that the water doesnt brown/yellow as much before I put it in my tank.

But anyways the question is: will this driftwood eventually completely soak up so it doesnt drift?? I was told it would but I don't want to wait plus I want good stability - so I was thinking of using plastic hooks with suction cups to the bottom of the tank??

Or how would I go about making a base for this thing? what type of material should be used? anyone experienced in this??? thanks in advance!

Buy a piece of plexiglass, drill a small hole in it,use an aluminum screw to attach it to the driftwood.Just put gravel and rock over the plexi and your piece will not float.
You can also use slate as the base.

or

You can get a nice flat rock and some aquarium sealer ,use a lot of sealer between the wood and rock (make sure it doesn't squirt out around the edges...let it dry a few days and there ya are :)

A few carefully placed rocks will hold it down. The plexiglass plate sugestion is the best, but remember that cheapliness is next to godliness. A big flat rock (slate is best) and some fishing line (Not free unless you're willing to search your local fishing spot for snagged and cut lines) will secure the driftwood to the slate.

thanks guys! i went to home depot today got a 24x10" piece of lexan plastic for $8.
sawed it down to the size of my wood drilled 2 holes on each side and a hole in the wood and bam!

was gonna use fishing line but decided to use that stuff from a trim cutter you use around your lawn, its all plastic and really thick and green too!

sediment has to settle/filter! thanks again guys

i mean before you put it in the tank, like maybe you never even needed to fasten it, maybe it sunk like a stone :dunno:

i really dont know what kind of person would go through all the trouble and not see if thats the case! first thing when i got the wood even before cleaning it i dropped it in that tank and it was pushing my hand up from the water it was so light! :kana:

nice peice of wood mate

here in aussie when i go up to my farm i go and find a few dead trees and cut them up throw the timber in one of my dams tied to an old brick, next trip up to the farm (about 6 -9 months later) i have drift wood for my tank. Pretty good really cause all the tanins have gone and i can throw (carefully place) it in to the tanks at home instant wood if you like every time i go up there i got around 5 bits of timber and i just put more in ready for the next trip up there.

The next time i go up i wanna put a small trees root system in there i have a tank around 2 meters long 1 meter high 1.2 meter wide if i put it in there upside down (roots facing up) it should look real good, I want to make an angel tank out of it

only problem it 7 hours drive an ill need a ute to get it home wont fit in my car with the wife and kid 2 dogs 4 bloody bag the wife takes 1 bag for the kid dog food dog beds lol i find i odd i can bring anything home lol
