Stand is made of 2" x 2" softwood beams and two 45" x 16" pine boards.

Stand with pine toy boxes underneath:

When finished the stand will have a skirting board round the top edge with a curtain thingy ( :D ) running underneath and behind that to hide the boxes. It will be varnished as well but don't know what colour yet.

Total cost = £40 (ish) B)

Excellent

How big are the tanks?

I'm thinking of replacing my 140L tank with one 2-3 times the size so that I can move on to keeping Discus. I reckon buying a large glass tank and making my own stand would be very economical?

Looks great, are you going to do a water bridge?
The way it's set up would be ideal for that :D

The tanks are 30g's each (100cm x 30cm).

If you're looking at getting a big tank and want to build a stand for that:

Been there, done that too :D

It has changed quite a bit since that picture (now has 45 degree supports like the other one) and i'm putting shelves in underneath then facing and edging it with pine and building a pine hood.
This tank is for Discus as i'm hoping to breed them next year.

Did think about that but decided against it. The right-hand tank is the girlfriends coldwater and the left-hand is my marine so it's impossible now :)
