I am planning on building a basic DIY CO2 system. Using the old coke bottle method.

I am in 2 minds over how the co2 will get into the water.

1. Using the bell method.

I was thinking of using have a coconut as the bell, as it would be less of an eye sore. But I don't know how necessary it would be to see inside it.

2. Feeding it through my filter.

I run an eheim 2224 external filter. would it be plausable to have the co2 bubbles going into the input tube and running through my canister that way? I am not sure that if there are bubble floating about in the canister it might have some effect on the motor.

Anyone had experience with either of these?

This is how I started - feeding the gas into the inlet to my canister filter, and it worked a treat.... BUT there was a LOUD pop noise as each bubble got sucked into the stream ! Ran it this way for a week or so until the ladder diffuser arrived off egay, not looked back since :good:
