Ive decided to setup a DIY yeast co2 system thingy. Ive read what i need for the mixture which is pretty simple. I was just wondering, people say attach to an airstone, others say this is not really effective. I was wondering could i use my powerhead as a diffuser if not what shold i use?? Does the co2 need to be on 24/7 because my powerhead is only on 8-9 hours a day. So far what ive read is that i need as far as equipment is:

Bottle (will a 2L coke bottle be alright?)
Air line
Scissors
Check valve
Drill
Silicone (can i use superglue?)

Is it that easy?

Could somebody please fil me in on exactly what i need and how to setup, or if any body could give me a good link with a step by step guide, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks folks :good:

You have the equipment correct. A 2ltr bottle is best. When I used co2 I used an airstone.

Once you screw the cap on the bottle there really is no way to shut it off other than pulling the hose out of the tank. The power head will work.

id use a tag team system with two bottles running at once...remix one on say, MONDAY and the other on, say thurs or fri...that way you have a steady supply of co2 and not so much up and down which can lead to algae. so instead of 1 2lt bottle, opt for 2 1lt bottles joined with a T-valve. worked great for me when i had my co2 set up!!!
if you use and airstone spend a few extra and get ceramic..the "regular" airstones ive found degrade in the presence of co2...same goes with the airline tubing..instead of using the clear plastic stuff, try to find some silicone tubing (it's blue)...stands up to co2 where as the regular tubing eventually degrades and you need to keep replacing it.
good luck.

Thanks for the info folks :good: i have it setup on my rio 125 now, its kicked in already too.

I was wondering if somone could tell me, could i set up a DIY system for a 4x2x2 tank?

If so would i need like 2 larger bottles, and do i just add the same mixture in each?
