hi i set up my diy co2 will post pics later
but do i need co2 during nightime and if not how can i turn it off
does the co2 bottle need to be on above my nano diffuser (on higher ground)

CO2 through the night is generally fine, especially if there is good surface movement to ensure plenty of O2. If you are worried then using an airstone through the night will drive off CO2. With glass/ceramic diffusers it is better to have a good circulation so the microbubbles are distributed effectively.

The bottle does not need to be above the diffuser but fitting a non-return valve is recommended.

Do you definitely need a non return valve. When I was messing about and tidying up under my tank the other day I unplugged the non return vavle for a couple of seconds and my tank started draining lol, all over my feet!

I find that if i have been a lazy so and so and not replaced my CO2 mixture, it actually starts sucking up water. (without the non-return valve) I opened my nutrafin cannister and got a face-ful of water lol.

will anything happen if i dnt use a non return valve
what if i just place the co2 cannister above the diffuser so the water doesnt flow back into the co2 bottle???

2bh i still havnt learned from my lesson and still dont have a non return valve. The water cant go anywhere if you have a tight strong seal. Just be careful when disconnecting it.
