Hi,

I've been looking for something to make a cave for a couple or Bolivian Rams that I will be getting soon.

I've no idea how big the cave would need to be. I've either been looking at a terracotta pot (somehow cut in half and part buried) or some sort of pipe covered in aquarium safe silicon and sand.

I've been looking at these:

40mm Bend

32mm Branch Pipe

40mm Branch Pipe

Would something like this be suitable and how wide would the pipe need to be (The ones I've seen come in 32mm or 40mm)?

If I was to go for a pot, what size would be suitable?

Cheers,

Maybe I just have very odd bolivian rams, but my pair don't go into the caves in my tank.

You do need some sort of hiding place. Mine prefer lurking between plants and decor, but yours might be different from mine. I would just try a section of tubing to start with and see if they like it. If they do, you can get the fancier shapes later. Don't forget that some tubes like in your links float! I use chunks of brown drainpipe in my quarantine tank. They stay on the bottom but the pipe you make sink waste pipes from floats - I've tried that too.

And you will need a flat stone for them to lay eggs on, if you manage to find a male/female pair.

i recently brought a cave shaped piece of wood. much better looking than a piece of plastic pipe. it is currently being used by either one of my synos or my Apisto.
