I know that DIY tanks aren't any cheaper than purchasing one unless they're ~125+. Is there a similar limit on when a DIY cannister filtration system becomes cheaper than a storebought?

I've seen some neat home-made sumps...but never a canister. I don't even know where one would start. If you have tanks that are that big, it's time to go to a pond supply place for your hardware.

I've often thought about doing this myself. http://www.aquaticsbykr.com/DIYCanisterFilter.htm is on the small size, I was looking around for 5 gallon buckets with threaded bungs in the lid a while back, similar to a 55 gallon drum. Couldn't find anything that small, there are ones in the 35 gallon range, which are way too big.
