What are some home materials that I can use to make a Bio-wheel? I don't really want to buy one because it's rather expensive (10 dollars here!). I do not have a bio-wheel filter adjustable to bio-wheels but I found some ways to manipulate the water flow and stuff. Thanks for any suggestions. :)

Also, if it's possible, PLEASE post pictures! ^_^

it would cost more in supplys to build one that it would be to just buy one

I agree with Phlawed. But if you were wanting to for other reasons than cost (ie you want to give it a go to see if you can do it), you would need to be pretty good with DIY and getting things just right so what ever you make spins properly and isn't restricted.

I am thinking of one made from acrylic plastic sheet (not sure about how well bacteria will stick though and the surface area would be poor) You could cut two discs out of the acrylic and a series of strips to fan out from the centre with the two discs on either end. Then have a box made from your acrylic with one side missing. and have your wheel in the missing side attached by way of stainless steel pins of sorts so it is free to move. You could then pump the water into the box and it will flow out pushing the wheel around.

If you have a HOB filter you might be able to rig up the wheel to that good luck.

Thanks for posting suggestions.

Yes, I have a Hang on Back filter. It's an aquaclear power filter.

Acrylic sheets seem to be expensive around here, :/ would buying one of those cheap bio-wheel filters become more of a bargain? I remember seeing the smallest (forgot which company) filter for 15 dollars.

you could make thebasic shape out of a cotton reel and cut strips out etc?

Yes. :good: I am sure I have seen some plastic ones that when the cotton thread is finished it reveals an already ridged plastic surface. It would be small but it would be ready to go. I am sure you could rig that up to the outlet of your filter. I think a thin plastic or stainless steal rod to thread the reel(s) onto then you just need to attach it in the water flow.
