right so a few weeks back i thought i'd make myself a new background using the polystyrene method. Cut out a few shapes, then heated it with a hot air gun and coated it with a few coats of sand and cement. After eventually getting the desired colour i was after i thought it was about time to cover it in pond sealant. This is where the problems started, not realising the pond sealer was solvent based it basically melted the polystyrene underneath and slowly ruined my work of art. Assuming i done everything right beforehand can someone advise me what to use to seal my next attempt, is there a pond sealer that isn't solvent based on the market !!!

i'm not sure what this stuff would do to polystyrene, but you're only supposed to apply it to masonry. i put 3 coats of cement on my polystyrene, and applied 3 coats of this sealant to the dry cement

cheers for the info i'll try and see if its available over here, when you say you put 3 coats of cement on, was it just cement or did you mix in some sand with it ?
