To get two of my guys used to being in a divided tank, I have had them sitting about 10 inches apart, close enough so they to see each other, but not close enough to constantly be flaring. I have never heard/seen any of these fish jump until today.

What precautions should I take? The jumper is alot more active when he is stimulated, so i would still like to include him in this tank. Any suggestions?

What are you using to divide the tank ? plastic canvas ? I was thinking you could make a 'T' out of some extra plastic canvas buy sewing a horizontal piece on top of the vertical divider piece? You'd have to be careful about the tank lights and also make sure they couldn't jump and land on top of the T as well.

Make sure whatever you are using to divide the tank touches whatever you are using to cover the tank. Watch for any openings in the lid also, they may jump completely out.

I am using the craft mesh and report covers as dividers. About 75% of the top touches the dividers, and I've got a few ideas for the other parts as well. I might put mesh on the part of the lid that doesn't reach down.

Ok, one more question. This time it is about arranging the fish. I've got two guys who I would consider very agressive, and will flare 24/7 at different reflections and one who flared constantly at the tiger barbs when his little bowl was floating in there to help keep him wark. Then I have two mellower guys. They both will flare when given the chance, but still on the mellow side.

How should I put them in the tank? Here are ideas that I was considering. (a=agressive, m=mellow)

a m m a - a little worried about two mellow guys having two bettas on each side
m a m a - a little worried about the mellow sandwiched between the two a's
m a a m - a little worried about attempting to jump, but i'm gonna b working on that

Input?

IMO, I would go with a m m a because this way at least each one of the mellow fish wouldn't be surrounded on all sides by the more aggressive fish. Be sure to stock full of plants and maybe some PVC pipe for hiding spots and it won't be as big of a deal. Floating plants are a good idea as well.

Bout the jumping, I have a jumper myself, (learned the hard way). Someone suggested on here (brilliant, actually) to cover the whole top with a craft mesh covering that lays on top of the dividers and covers the entire top of the tank. So, in essence, you'd have two tops to the tank: the craft top for non jumping and the hood of the tank. It seems like a pain, but it's a lot better than treating torn fins or having to bury the jumper. :/

I have a no fail solution that has worked marvelous for me. I got some extra craft canvas, siliconed some sheets together, and cut it to fit under my lid, so it sat on top of the dividers. I cut a hole over each compartment for feeding, and a hole for the heater cord. It works GREAT! there is phisically no way they can jump over the dividers, they'd hit the canvas. If you want, you can get canvas the same color as your lid or hood, so it doesnt look so odd.
