Dividing a tank for 2 male bettas

I have a 5 gallon tank, and a mini tank for my two male betta fish.

And due to a freak incident involving my cat... my first betta is in the tank, and the second is living in a beer glass at the moment.

I have come to a proposal with my brother and he will buy my 5 gallon tank and i will go buy a 12 gallon tank along with a divider to go down the middle .
Thats why i am wondering if 12 gallons would be enough to put a divider in and keep my two fish in.

All thoughts/opinions would be awesome

6 gallons is plenty of space for a betta! They'll love it and you

Get them some plants if you can. When they get tired of swimming around their new mansion they'll have a place to rest

oh 6 gal would be lovely for a betta!
make sure you have a sturdy divider and that the water level isnt too close to the top of the divider as they will jump over and try to visit each other.

im really curious about the freak accident that happened with your cat, please tell the story!

Well... there are these betta starter kits, that come in green purple or blue colours... i bought one for mysecond betta because they're a pretty good price..

I have a huge fluffy kitten named Nermal... who i found out is facinated by fish. I came home from work to find that new tank i bought lying in pieces on my room floor and my new fish Murdoc on the floor.

Now i donno how long he had been there for ,... so i quickly threw him into my other male betta's tank. YES I KNOW THAT WAS STUPID, but i needed water.

i dont have a back up tank, so i ran (well technically i fell because i was running to fast) to find a cup thats big enough. I found a beer glass LOL

When i came up , and it wasnt even 5 minutes later, my first betta was all beat up and his fins were ripped.

STUPID CATS!!!!!!! now Murdoc is living in his beer glass, and Squishy is reviving in the small tank i have for now

haha thats funny, silly cat!
man i woulda freaked out if id come home to find one of my tanks knocked over - you're lucky you could save your betta after being out of water.
the temp home in the beer glass is funny too, ive actaully done that before as well.
yikes the thought of putting 2 bettas together gives me the willies, but i prolly woulda done the same thing to save em. how is squishy doing?

lol at the beer glass... see thats why until you know for certain ur kitty dont like fishys you keep it away from them... my cat 18 he just sits on the floor and watches them swim around LOL
