I have a divided 2.5 gallon tank and two new male bettas. They can see each other, and so are doing their best flaring and posturing. They aren't thrashing about or anything, just strutting their stuff.

Should I get a silk plant that might act as a visual barrier, or will they eventually realize they can't get at each other and just tire of it?

Depends, I have some bettas that will go @ it for a while and in a couple hours, forget about their neighbors. It really just depends on the bettas, try to watch and see what they do for a few days. I am pretty sure they will just leave each other alone and once in a while start flaring @ each other, its betta nature. I have lots of 2.5 gallons with bettas in them, and have never had problems with them flaring @ each other too long, unless your going to put your bettas in a show, or if your bettas are HM or Deltas, they will be alright.

Give them time and they will calm down. That's also perfectly normal of them to do that so I wouldn't worry, I'd be happy you have healthy fish..

i agree with waht everyone said. Personally, mine (4 of htem) use to be kept in a 10G divided with semi-clear dividers, and they'd flare and flare and flare for weeks :p i guess they never really got the message. But later they were moved to an opaque plastic container each and they wouldnt' eat or do anything until i moved them to clear containrseand put htem next to year other :D

they are strange fish  but i wouldn't worry too much if i wereyou.

Thanks for the advice. I picked up these two guys the other day after my betta of several years died this week. He was a good desk companion who kept me company. But last week he quit eating and would just sit at the bottom of the tank all of the time. I tried treating him for an internal infection, but with no success. Maybe he was just getting old and was too weak to survive any kind of illness. I know I'll miss the little fella. :byebye:

I have a 6 gallon tank which is divided into 4 compartments and for the first couple of days they were flaring like mad at each other, but Now afte over a week in the tank they are all perfectly happy with each other and stop for the ocasional display and flare which is nice :)
