Hi, manages to almost slice my finger off yesterday (slight exageration) but I needed 6 stitches anyway.

Obviously I don't want to risk any infection from my tank water so would those disposable gloves used in first-aid kits be ok, or would they harm the fish?

I use surgical gloves all the time aleast for the past 4 years and I don't think they have done any damage to my tank but I do wash my hands with them on before I put them in either of my tanks :D

Good advice! Also get the vinyl ones, NOT latex. Latex have powder on them that can be irritating to some peeps.

U can get powder-free latex and vinyl gloves
