after initially buying poor quality discus and initially being discouraged ive finally got into the routine now with some better quality fish. they have been getting daily water changes and fed as 4 times a day and seem to be growing well. im down to 3 which is a bad number but 3 more are on order from the same source and they should be in by the weekend. these are about 4-4.5" now and the colours are looking better everyday. so can the more experienced ayes among you let me know if everything seems ok. heres some pics and a video and im sorry bout the unclear water as i was giving the tank a bit of a overhaul:

Are you running an external filter? If so get yourself an inline heater as Discus can very easily be burned by in tank heaters, esp as yours seem to like that end of the tank. Other than that they look good, I'd get yourself some large swords or similar plants as sometimes they like to hide away and they do like the cover from the lighting. :good:

the tank was completely empty when i took these shots as i was moving things around. they have some cover with bogwood.

Cool, just get that heater sorted dude, trust me you'll regret it if you dont.

They look good. Healthy Looking nice shape. Can't wait too see what the new ones look like.

yes me too, im getting an albino yellow crystal, a blue scorpion snakeskin and a regular pigeon blood. but im like a kid in a candy store when i go to my supplier.

my plan is to get these 6 to nearly 6" then move them to my larger tank, hopefully with no problems, then look into adding more centerpiece discus like a penang and giant flora.

I have just gotten a new discus and it looks exactly like the 1 in the 1st pic :hyper:

Get the fluval E300 and you should have the best option for a in tank heater. Also pick up a inline filter heater as a backup.
But everything looks good from the picture! :)

No need to get an inline heater, why not just get a £3 heater guard...

I would use a heater guard for most fish but tbh i never bothered with my discus as they never felt the need to go near the heater.... clownloaches (any loaches) and definately stingrays again i would get a guard. And plecs too.

What substrate is being used? Looks horribly like coral sand!!

Yeah but why have beautiful Discus and a pig ugly heater cover. :)

im getting the fluval e300 as i have one in another tank and i like the lcd display that let you know with a quick glance that everythings fine.

it isnt coral sand but i used to have some in there, i tried to get it all out but they was a tiny bit left that im trying to get rid of during water changes. its a small ammount and wont impact the ph though.
