Ok, two days ago I added new plants to my discus tank. That nightone of my discus died. He exhibited no physical symptoms and the body was clean. Now my other discus is pale and sitting at the top of the tank. The rummys who are also in that tank are fine.
Assuming a toxin may have come in on the plants I have done a 30% water change yesterday and this morning. My params are ammonia-0, nitrite-0 and my pH is off the charts-8.6. This is where I am concerned. My pH has always been at this level and this is the same level as they were bred at. However, could this now be affecting them, or is my toxin theory more likely?

Please help me, I have no idea what to do next. :dunno:

Sorry to hear about your loss.

It can be really annoying when you have an emergency and are desparately trying to save a fish and don't get any replies in time, this has happened to me so i'm speaking from experience. I'm sure if someone could have helped they would :(
Has the place where you got the plants from experienced any problems?

Hiya Sorrell,

Really sorry about your loss :(

:rip: Little discus :(

I have found that posting an emergency (or any post that needs exposure) to post in the Emergency AND chit chat section.
The chit chat section seems to be where every1 hangs out.... and thus more eyes?

I know its bad, and bad forum practise, but you were really in need of help and im sure nobody would of taken offence.....

Sorry if i have broken any conduct in saying this :S i hope i havnt upset ppl - just an idea thats all....

Again, sorry for the fish Sorrell, i lost a Gourami not long back (not quite the same league but you know, it was still my ickle fish)...

How are the other fish?

Good luck with them :)

I'm sorry guys I didn't mean to sound snippy or anything. I know that since he died this afternoon that probably nothing could have been done earlier. I also know that Discus aren't your most common fish so I shouldn't have expected a ton of replies.

I'm just upset that I lost all my discus in three days, so I hope you all understand and will accept my apologies. :(

Not too many people here probably know how to solve a discus problem simplydiscus.com would of been the place to go for questions.

Thats so bad.

If your anything like me you get a bit attached (not v macho I know).

I lost my Singapore Flower Shrimp "Shrimpy" last week and was gutted.

I spose its not just the emotional loss with discus but there also a big investment, not just in money, but the time spent being rly pedantic about water params.

Sorry for your loss mate.

You should give them a mention in the rainbow bridge topic. It's a nice goodbye and it puts things in perspective when you read about all the other pets people have lost.

:/ Hi sorrel :) ,
im so sorry i didnt get here in time.. as you know i breed discus, my water here is 8.5 out of the tap wich includes heating dechlor ageing an airating.. ive breed alot of discus at this ph.. to me it sounded like a internal parasite that came in with the plants which affect discus alot easier than other fish (which is probably why the other fish are fine) i really dont know what to suggest for this but try any internal parasite treatment you could find to save the rest of them, i hoped i helpd  good luck

Nutter

EDIT, i realise that good luck was a bit late now :X
