Fish Fanatic
Hi guys,
Where do I start, My tank has been running for about 7 months now last week I did my routinely weekly 15% water change and within 30 minutes all my corals began closing up.
I knew it wasnt right but as it was 10pm there wasnt much I could do so decided to leave till morning.
However, nothing prepared me for what I was about to witness.
The first thing that hit me was the smell and as I walked into my living room my tank looked like a snow storm inside.
All my corals, softies and hard were decomposing, my acroporas were practically white, my coral beauty, purple fire fish, 2 clowns and 2 shrimp were dead, all snails and crabs also died.
I can only put it down to the water change I made the previous evening.
I use deionised water which I purchase from a supplier at my place of work and have been using this water for years with no problems ever before.
I immediately tested the tank for ammonia but this was zero.
All the coraline algae has also faded badly.
I had to strip down the sump and thoroughly clean it I also removed all the sand from the tank.
I am now doing a series of water changes with water from my lfs and things are improving over time.
Basically my tank was completely wipe out in 12 hours.
Obviously a toxic substance was introduced from the water I added but I dont know?
Will my live rock recover from this?
Any advise would be appreciated and what should I test for before adding any live stock?
Absolutely gutted.
