Hi

I've had a tank a good couple of months now. It took weeks to get the Nitrite levels down and the water is spot on now but it seems to be a bit yellowy coloured, and the rocks get green (algie) after just a couple of weeks hence need cleaning rather more frequently than anticipated. Any ideas?

get some algae eaters mate either fishy or snails etc to take care of the algae.. water should clear as you do your weekly water changes.. have you added any bog wood or mopani wood? this may explain the yellowish colouration of the water..

Have you checked the nitrate and phosphate levels if these are high the water in a smaller tank can take on a yellowish appearance. Water changes can help with this. As for the algae a few otos will keep that in hand for you if we talking about the regular short algae. they are very good at cleaning this up for you.

:D also did you try any of the chemicle water clear products? They turned my tank yellowish as well. Try doing 10% water changes every day. It will clear the water up,and the above mentioned are all great choices for the algae!

I agree. Make sure you use carbon in your filter too. You may need to change it a little more often, than normal.

Your question has been answered well. I'll only add that if you don't have a lot of room in the tank, but need an algae eater, take a look at the Siamese Algae Eater. Effective and goofy little guys that don't mind being alone.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! I hope you learn as much from this place as I have.
