Hi guys. I'm looking for some advice. I put live grass in my tank before Christmas and it is slowly spreading and making a carpet. While it is growing what is the best way to clean the gravel. I have been using a gravel pump but worry myself every time that I will pull the grass out. Also the gravel is getting a bit dirty. What is the easiest way ??

have you seen these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALGARDE-POWER-GRAVEL-CLEANER-SUBSTRATE-MARINE-HOOVER-DETRITUS-FISH-TANK-/321490953338

You attach the pipe to an air pump and hover it over your substrate and it sucks up the debris into the little cotton bag. The water passes through the bag so you could vac daily if you wanted to and there's no need to add any water.

I have one and I have used it in a tank with a grass carpet and it was pretty good at hoovering the debris and not pulling up the carpet

No problem - you can get battery powered ones but I can't vouch for those as mine is the Algarde one in the link. I have heard of the battery powered ones breaking easily
