Was just giving one of my juvies a little snack and Dijon who is in the divided tank with it thought he was getting fed and jumped clean out of the tank. The tank is about 3 foot high from the top and he landed on the laminate flooring and I nearly trod on him because I hadn't a clue what it was and thought it was a moth or something at first

He flip flopped around like mad so it made catching him really akward. To make matters worse he landed right next to my dog's cage so he's now covered in dog hair. He looks very shocked and also very hairy so I'm not sure if he's going to be ok :(

Maybe I'll swap him over with one of my other guys so he can have a quiet time on his own and add some salt.

This is only the second time I've had a betta jump out of the tank on me, but it scared me to death. Does anyone else get the "headless chicken" panic when this happens?

I'm glad you were able to rescue him. If you've already put him back into the divided tank, I would not move him again. I would add water conditioner (to replace his slime coat from flapping on the ground), aquarium salt, or indian almond leaves to help him recover. Try to make him as calm as possible- keep his tank dark, if you can. Let us know how he does

Wow, You're lucky your dog didn't get him.
Hope he is feeling better soon.

Thanks guys :)

I had already put him in another tank as I didn't want to upset the other two occupants of the tank with salt etc as one is only 7 weeks old.

He doesn't look too bad apart from it looks like some loose skin around the eyes but he just ate some defrosted Artemia so that's something.

you definatley need beanie boxes keep the lid on.......
