Digital Aquarium Thermometer

Ive tried various electronic thermometers, and always gone back to the cheap 'n' cheerfull LCD stick on's... due to inaccuracy !
Last one I bought was an all singing one with alarms, that only went BEEP at 3am - £20 flattened with a hammer.

I had a small blue thermometer lasted 3mths it leaked

Think it was £5.99

Also did not find it very accurate.

i have a marina one with a probe you stick in the tank and the unit velcros where you want it near enough spot on +/- 0.2ºc £4.50 from my lfs

wolf - i found that link after posting, a greaty little right up :good:

the thing i like about this the most is the alarm but as rooster said i dont want it waking my up at a silly time at night

thanks for the input so far.

I have a Marina Aqua Minder all "singing" and dancing thermometer that lets you program how many weeks till next water change (not really a needed option) how many months till maintenance check and filter system check, it displays the current date time and of course temp in the tank.

Also lets you put in a min temp and max temp limit and if it goes above or below beeps, beeps and carries on beeping till the temp is corrected.

When the schedules are due it will beep to let you know and as i found out if you set it up at say 1am 2 am in a months time at 1/2am you know what its going to BEEP, BEEP and BEEP till you get your butt out of bed and turn it off. i learned my lesson and now re-programed and put the settings in at a time i know i will be near the tank. so wont be waken up at silly o'clock in the morning.

with regards to the accuracy the temp has never been more than 0.3c out. Ive checked it against other digital thermometers and non digital.

I think its not too bad a buy, cost me £12 from local lfs and strangely the smaller unit that only displays the temp only was £17 i did ask in case they mixed the price up but nope.

It was an "aquaminder" that I beat flat ! MASSIVE temp errors, alarm always going off

:/
wolf liked that from his product review.

wolf how do you get on with the aquaminder? have you had any problems with it?

nope, no problems at all.
batteries last around 18 months. :good:

I use the cheap stick on LCD ones. They are not very accurate, but I figure I should have at least something. I have a decent thermometer, (brewing model), which I can use if I suspect anything awry, but my Mk I finger tends to be good enough the rest of the time.

If there is a problem when I'm not around, no amount of alarms is going to help because I'm, well, not around.

I used to use stick on LCD's. Then I realised they were very inaccurate, they read air temperature more than tank I think.

My water was constantly 27-29C.

I got some glass ones inside the tank, they are very good and change accurately, like 2 quid each. 23-25C all the time, perfect.

I bought 20 glass thermometers when I found them for 99p each.

No alarms of anything - but plenty accurate enough and no batteries :D
