I've got two clown loaches (krusty & handsome pete)

Krusty really enjoys digging right down in to the gravel picking stones up and literally throwing them out the way. Is this normal behaviour or just a quirk in his personality?

Hey there.

Don't be alarmed by this behaviour, it is perfectly normal for Clown Loach to act this way. They are very very quirky fish and do have their own personalities to an extent. They have lots of odd little traits which to the unsuspecting aquarist can be quite alarming. Things like sleeping flat on their side out in the open can alarm people, thinking they are dead when infact they are just resting. Also they do love digging and scavenging for food. If they know/think something is under the stones/sand they will go into a frenzy digging for it, often making their jaws click almost in excitement. Mine often went nuts in the tank during feeding, picking up tiny stones and throwing them about in search of food. They are simply fascinating fish to keep, so enjoy them!

Yep my two dig all the time. Had dinner guests once and they were drinking coffee afterwards and were mesmerized by my two big clowns digging a big hole in the gravel at the front! It was really big as they'd thrown the gravel in to a heap at each side. Looking for food or snails to eat probably.
