Hi, I saw a tank and stand in lfs (Wilsons petshop to be precise). I am not asking about this tank specifically but it had a different filtration to those I have seen and I wonder if anyone has any experience of it? It had a clear plastic tube with long holes in it on the right hand side and the water went up there, then along the tank hood. The filter medium was kept in the hood, then another tube came down into the tank on the left hand side. I have a Juwel Rekord 96 and if there was a long powercut (not happened yet) I assume the filter media would be OK because the filter is internal and would be always in the water. There was no leaflet available so I thought I would ask here. Thanks in advance. :) The reason I am interested is I am looking to upgrade and it is cheaper than the ones I have seen so far.

Don't know the design you are talking about. Do you have a link?

Several in hood systems were around in the past, Tunze for example made a whole range of hood mounted modules for building filters. Thing was, they took up a lot of hood space which could be better used with lighting.

sounds like AA aquariums
badged under "fish r fun" and imported into the UK by Den marketing.

hang on and I'll try and find the website.

note it asks you to install chinese script, just click cancell (never install any scripts)

I have two of these tanks and I'm very impressed with the filters. The beauty of them is you can put whatever filter media you want into the box, you don't have to stick to the floss/charcoal it comes with.
I think PaulMTS has one of the tanks too.

Thanks for the replies and the link. It was imported by Den Marketing, that was all the information I had. I was going to write to them to ask for information, but as the filtration system was new to me I preferred to ask on here and get more useful info. Such as whether it works well or not! They don't seem to do very big tanks, I was looking for more like a 70UK gal one. My present one is about 20UK gals. :) The one in the shop looked quite big but unless you see different sizes together it is hard to guess capacity.

if the shop stocks den marketing stuff as you say they can order in the GPS2100 for you around £300 retail. the latest tank den marketing got in from china is the FRF3000 300lyt bow front retail at around £450

I have the gps2100 and it is a stunning tank. I also have the gps611, as I said before the filters are great on them.

Thanks, I am going to bookmark this page. Just need to convince other half that I really, really need another tank! The price difference between these and the Juwel one I wanted is quite a lot. I am glad you have them and think they are OK. I would not have bought an unknown (to me) brand unless someone on here actually had one. I would have worried about leaks. I notice they are child-safe so it should be OK to let me loose with one! I could not actually see the filtration in the hood as the tank was on it's cabinet and on a display stand. I am 5ft 3ins tall....... :)

here are some photos for you then,
seeing as you couldn't see them in the shop

this is the gps2100 it uses 2 powerheads to lift the water into each filter box they are rated at 1100ltr/hr each. This means the tanks volume (240ltr) is filtered 9 times an hour.

I have my filter media as follows
from input
floss/course sponge/fine sponge/peat/bio-balls

you can put what you like in the box; whatever your needs are this will accomidate it.

( I should get commission here  )

Does look like one of the old Tunze setups, I wonder where they copied the idea from

That said, as I said above, the biggest problem for me with the Tunze kits was the ammount of space it used which could be used for lighting. I would wonder about the rig for a real planted tank for example.

At the end of the day, it depends what you want to put in there.

Thanks for the pictures, you should be on commission! I plan to move my Common Pleco into the bigger tank and do some research as to what other fishes to get. I might put a few of my Mollies in there as well as I have quite a few. I do have real plants. I have had some bad luck with them lately. Firstly I bought two Yoyo loaches and they ruined them by digging. Then my Pleco has started to uproot them as well, by accident. I am going to have gravel again and get a piece of bogwood for the pleco. I bought some Mopani for it which is apparently the wrong sort of wood. The pleco seems to like it though! :)
