I recently got two bettas, both females, from different stores. I put one in a filtered five gallon tank with minimal flow and live plants and driftwood. I put the other one in a big 25 gallon with two female guppies. The one in the 25 gallons seems so happy and full of life, always swimming around, seems to like the guppies, no aggression or territorial behaviour, eats very well etc. The one in the five gallon seems depressed. I don't know if I'm projecting human emotions onto fish but it just seems like it's unhappy. It doesn't swim or explore much at all just kind of hides in different corners or other stuff. I tried to put them all together in the big 25 gallon but sad betta immediately went over and started showing aggressive behaviour towards happy betta so I had to remove. I don't know what to do. Previously as a kid I owned betta in little bowls and now I read more about them and know they need more space, so I prepared this 5 gallons with rocks and driftwood and live plants but it just doesn't seem to like it. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to give it more time? I've had them for a couple days.

Welcome to the forum, It has been years since I had Betta and only males. They seem to have their own personality some are more aggressive than others and some are more shy. You only have had them for a few days, give them time. I had a new very shy Betta that seem to hide when ever anyone approached. I spent time talking to him (yes talking to a fish). After awhile he stopped hiding and eventually would swim over to the side of the tank where I was. Just took time so be patient.
