Fish Fanatic
Well, I am totally new to breeding bettas...but after doing countless hours of research, I decided to try. The first spawning attempt failed, because the female began attacking the male (don't worry...everyone is fine and has recovered nicely). The second spawning attempt went much better and the red ct pair embraced and everything was good. (Hardly any nipping occured.) Unfortunately, the red ct male was a not a good father and ate all the fry. I then tried a third and fourth time....once again the females started getting extremely stressed and nipped at the males, so I had to terminate the spawnings.
Then as a last ditch effort...I put the blue marble female in trap with the blue BF male and 10 minutes after I released her into the spawning tank...they were embracing. They embraced for 2 1/2 hours and male did a pretty good job as father. I removed him a day too late and he ended up eating most of the fry, but I still have around 10. They are doing really good and eating well. The hubby and I cleaned the tank today (there was garbage going bad on the tank bottom) and the fry handled it quite well. I am hopeful that most of the fry will make it to adulthood and I will update as they grow.
