Well, I am totally new to breeding bettas...but after doing countless hours of research, I decided to try. The first spawning attempt failed, because the female began attacking the male (don't worry...everyone is fine and has recovered nicely). The second spawning attempt went much better and the red ct pair embraced and everything was good. (Hardly any nipping occured.) Unfortunately, the red ct male was a not a good father and ate all the fry. I then tried a third and fourth time....once again the females started getting extremely stressed and nipped at the males, so I had to terminate the spawnings.
Then as a last ditch effort...I put the blue marble female in trap with the blue BF male and 10 minutes after I released her into the spawning tank...they were embracing. They embraced for 2 1/2 hours and male did a pretty good job as father. I removed him a day too late and he ended up eating most of the fry, but I still have around 10. They are doing really good and eating well. The hubby and I cleaned the tank today (there was garbage going bad on the tank bottom) and the fry handled it quite well. I am hopeful that most of the fry will make it to adulthood and I will update as they grow.

I have a picture of the male...the female is really hard to get a picture of...

wow :D lovely pictures!! dont' let them kno wyou posted those on the net

congrats on them :D fry are tougher than you think :flex: after one week i start doing mad water changes :) if you let the water back in slowly, and make sure thet temp is roughly the same, it wouldn't hurt htem :)

i use an airline tubing as a mini-syphon to clean out the tanks, i put a rigid airline tubing on one end and use that to suck up the stuff. I then use the same thing to put water back in (takes hell of a long time, but it's good)

good luck on them

GORGEOUS male, and great pictures! They all look great.

congrats on the spawing :D

Carrie :hyper: Congrats!!
Your pictures are amazing, I love them  I was thinking about 'betta love' today and I can't really think of any other fish who get quite so physical during spawning, look how beautiful they are

Wow! I guess I got lucky with my first spawn! (First for me and the fish lol) Congrats on getting a successful spawn!! Good luck with your fry!! Aren't they cute!

BOTM? I think those pictures are really amazing. It's home aquatic discovery channel. :kewlpics:

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures (I'm surprised they came out as well as they did).

I just thought I would post an update...my wonderful hubby did another water change last night for me and guess what?!?! I have 11 fry! :D He removed the plants before cleaning and was finally able to get an accurate count. They all seem to be eating good and growing well. I just hope they keep growing and become big and strong like their parents.
