I just recently converted a 29 gallon african cichlid tank into a tropical tank. Right now I have in it

6 cherry barbs
5 neons
4 guppies
2 mollies
1 bette
3 oto cats
1 weather loach
and 3 tin foil barbs.
Decorations are:
java moss, java fern, amd hornwort plants. lots of hidy holes and a couple of large rocks.

I have a good filter and keep the tank clean, do you think I have way too many fish? I just got the tin foil barbs and was told they only get 2" long, I'm going to try and return them tomorrow. I would like 2-3 larger fish but I don'r know if I can pull it off.

personally i wouldn't add anymore fish to that tank, especially larger fish.
i would consider rehoming those tin foil barbs, they get BIG.

and i'd watch the betta getting nipped by the neons, and the betta has the potential to attack the guppies, if they're male with the colourful tails.

I'm calling the LFS today to see if they will take the barbs back, I've only had them about 3 days. They killed one of my guppies and were chasing a molly today, they are really neat fish but I'll wait until I get a biggre tank.

The betta is a nice docile fish but I'm probably going to give the rest of the guppies to my mom, I don't really like them or the mollies. I always seem to kill mollies within a couple of months.

Don't feel bad about that. Mollies are hard fish to keep, due to having special requirements. Mollies like some salt in their water, while other fish can't really take the salt. For example, you couldn't put salt in your tank, because the Neons, Loach, and Otos wouldn't like it. They also prefer hard, alkaline water. And, they also need veggies and usually some kind of vitamins in their diet. You can read more about the needs here. I just wanted to point it out so you don't feel like you're doing something terribly wrong. They just have special needs. :)

Ok, I took the tin foil barbs back to the LFS. The betta is getting his own tank later today and hopefully I give my guppies away to my mom. Now my tank won't look so crowded:)

As far as the Mollies go, I said I would never get them again but I let my daughter pick "her" fish out and she wanted mollies. I'm feeding a more varied diet now so maybe they will make it for awhile.
