i set up my new tank just over a week ago now with live rock and live sand i noticed today there are diatoms starting to appear on the sand should i start to do 20% water changes now. the live rock came from my other tank which had been running over a year so rock was taken straight out of one into another

Some would say it is just part of a tank maturing but lets see. Whats your water stats? Lighting? Flow? How long is the light on for? These would help us help you!

Cheers

As James rightly said, it is part of the cycle and to be expected - only do a water change after ammonia 0, nitRItes 0 and nitrAtes high around 25/50 then do a large water change of approx 50% if a nano but if a large tank try to do 25%

ps your cuc will clean up those diatoms for you after the cycle :good:
