Been having trouble for ages with my puffer tank and getting major diatoms on all my swords that are close to the surface. As I'm sure you prob know the ammonia in a puffer tank can be higher than most due to the mess they make. Well after doing very regular water changes and it not helping at all I decided on a cure, after drilling 6 holes in the underside of the tank lid (cant be seen when the lid is shut) and putting two asda bags covering the light, the tank is now low light. Everything is growing nicely and the diatoms have vanished. I couldn't afford a lower light bulb as we're expecting a baby in 3 months so every penny goes on him at the moment lol, I thought it was a clever little fix anyway. :) You can't see the bags at all or any of the fixings and the GSP's have come up very bright green, I'm guessing due to the dim lighting and wanting to show their colours off more. :) Clever me lol.

Algea eatteres love that annoying brown algea. If you have otos in the tank you will never see a spot of the stuff. But if this is a brackish puffer tank I am really now surre you can keep algea estters. Sometimes this algea goes a away with time. It's a really easy algea to clean and never does much damage it just looks yucky.
