Diatim Outbreak ?

hey there all,

my new tank has been running for about 4 weeks now and i started getting a huge diatom outbreak, i cleaned the glass and it seems like the outbreak is backing off,glass still clean after 1 day and a half.

PH 8.5
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10
Sg 1024

will test phosphate magnesium and calcium later today,,

how long till i can start adding fish ?

I'd add the CUC now and leave it a couple more weeks before adding a fish assuming water params are stable.

Thats about when my largest diatom and green algae happened for me too. Very normal, just add CUC now and watch it disappear. Also my PO4 was up to 0.1mg/L so I added RowaPhos and it is down to 0.05 and there is minimal algae growth now. Enough to feed the CUC.

I'd have to say that diatoms are my favourite pest "algae". Almost anything will eat them. Silicates seem to be a major fuel for them.
