Hello all:

I have after a few weeks, I have 8 Diamond Tetra's (added pairs slowly) and they are great beautiful little fish. They do "sparkle" like diamonds lol. Anyways, my question is: Are they Fin Nippers? The reason I ask, I have 4 Madagascan Rainbow (2 males and 2 females) and their anal fins are dmg etc. I watch the fish and the Tetra's sometimes do go after the other fish (the fin area). The research on websites say nothing about them fin nip etc. The tail fins are fine on all my fish. There is no dmg at all there.

Any feedback will help. Thanks

I've never owned Diamonds myself, but they are gorgeous, and someday they will be mine. :p :D :fun:

As for your question, in my opinion, I think that any tetra can be a fin nipper. Some aren't as bad as others, but I believe that all if not most of them can and will. Then again, it also depends on the fish itself. I have 3 Serpae Tetras, and everywhere I read it says they are the worst kind of nippers, but mine have never hurt a fly. :D

This probably didn't help you, but I figured I'd add my 2 cents. :p

No it did :D I agree here. I think it's going to be ok...I hate seeing dmg fins lol I have a Emperor Tetra and he keeps them all in check. He was been there for a while now, and he does not fin nip at all. Diamond Tetra's are great indeed. I hope my rainbows do ok (I hear fish can get Fin rot from nips). I'll need to keep a eye out and see if it's one or two fish only (return them etc).

Good idea. Keeping an eye out for the offending fish is always a good plan.  I too, hate to see damaged fins, but it seems to be a case at some point in every tank.

Good luck with your tetras and your tank! Keep us informed of what you find and decide to do.
