I'm looking at replacing the std Juwel Rekord 600 15W T8 bulb with the Dennerle TROCAL-de Luxe Special-Plant light also 15W, was wondering if anyone has used lights by this company, here's a link to the manufacturers description

The ideal choice for magnificent plant aquaria

* Creates a warm, particularly pleasant light atmosphere
* DE LUXE light quality
* Colour rendition: EXCELLENT
* Special spectrum = anti-algae effect
* Extra-long service life: over 15,000 lighting hours
* With TROCAL Color Peaks: Fish are lit up in their most beautiful colours - Ideal growing light for plants
* Light spectrum tailored to aquarium plants with "algae gaps"
* Activates chlorophyll synthesis
* When mixed light colours are in use, TROCAL Special Plant always improves the light spectrum towards good plant growth.
* Tests revealed a reduction in the generally unwelcome tendency towards the formation of floating leaves among various plants, including Echinodorus great water plantain, Tiger lotus, Sagittaria
* 26 mm diameter = 10 % less power consumption than lamps with 38 mm diameter. At the same time, 10 % more light than lamps with 38 mm diameter.
* High luminous efficiency = low electricity costs A 30 W TROCAL Special Plant lamp generates 2400 lumen
* Fit all standard aquarium lighting units
* Can be used with conventional and electronic ballasts
* Combinable with all TROCAL light colours

will be ordering it from zooplus if its any good

thanks

Don't waste your money, certain spectrums of light do not cause algae.

This is all you need:

As Truck pointed out, all you really need is a T-8 with a spectrum around 6500K. The one he referred to is as good as any other 6500K bulb.

Sorry to HiJack the thread, but it's something that I was looking at changing. I have two 'Daylight' lamps in my tank at the moment, but they seem quite White and Blue and don't really hightlight the darker colours in the tank, or the reds of the fish. Would the lamps which Truck has suggested cover a broader range of colours, or should I be looking at a 'Sunlight' lamp, to go with the daylight?

Thanks

A "daylight" lamp is often in the 5500K to 6500K range of colors. It does tend to look a bit blue compared to many of the indoors lights we are accustomed to using. If you do not have plants in your tank, you will get more typical lighting in the tank with a cool white bulb. It will not have the right wavelengths to optimize plant growth but will not have that bluish cast to it.
