I have 5 Denisons Barbs (Red Torpedo Barbs) and they seem to feed on the bottom quite a bit. They bottom feed after all other food is gone. I just relized that the ones I have seen in tanks at my local fish store do not feed on the bottom often or at all. Perhaps I am not feeding my fish enough? I do feed what they can eat in about 2-3 minutes 2-3 times a day, but these "juvinile" barbs seem very hungry all the time. Should I feed these fish more often? Perhaps because they are growing they need more feedings?

i wouldn't feed them anymore, i think if anything you are overfeeding at the moment anyways! we only feed our fish once a day! our torpedo barbs do tend to eat at their own level in the tank, however, we sometimes feed food which sinks quickly, so they do go down to the bottom to feast on this food also!

kat :)

Barbs are grubbers by nature. If there is food lying on the bottom, they will go after it.
