Now i'm semi-clued up on this matter, but putting it into effect is another thing all together.
My dempseys had eggs about a week ago, and they have since hatched. For three days now they have been consuming their egg sacks and this morning i've woken to find free swimming adventurous little blighters in my tank Now the female currently has 50% of a Rio 180 to herself with the male dempsey, 3 angels, 4 SAE's and 3 Boesemani's on the other side. The SAE's and Boesemani's regularly pass through the gaps to the other side but seem none bothered by the dempsey with fry.
I've decided to remove half of the free swimming fry and placed them in a molly breeder trap for the time being, leaving the other half with the female in the tank. I thought i'd guarantee the survival of some of the fry seeing as though the female decided to keep them about an inch from the base of the divider, which allows fully grown rainbows through so dempsey fry obviously fit through.
The female is looking like she'll happily feed her young she has access to, however i'm aware i have to provide for those in the trap. Any ideas what to do. I'm thinking crushed flake, or crushed cichlid pellets.
Any suggestions or experiences you guys want to share would be wonderfull.
Cheers, James.
P.s - i shall add some photo's when i can get the camera out
