Could you help me make a sensible choice
At the moment i have 5 yellow labs, 2 acei yellow tail, 2 colalt blue zebras and i red zebra in a 65gal with plenty of ocean rock.
What i want is a large number of bright stripey fish i like demasoni but know they are aggressive has anyone kept a group of these with sucess, if this is asking for trouble can you recommend another fish with similar colouring that i can have afew of, i also like the male saulosi but not sure if i can keep more than 1
Advice greatly appreciated

The problem with demasoni is that they really are that aggressive.

The magic number with these guys is 8+, any less then that and you'll find one will kick the others' ass, to death.

And for a group that big, IMO, you ideally need a bigger tank then 65G.

But I'm sure Ferris and others will be along with some awesome options for you :good:

I had the same problem, when i kept malawi
I managed to find some different labs that may fit your description.

Labidochromis chuwa or choww- they have a dark blue/purple bas colour with dark vivd black vertical stripes with some orange blushing over the top the head

Labidochromis hongi- there loads of strains my favourites were the Kimpuma and the Limpingo strains. they have a light blue base, with dark vivd black stripes with an orange doral fin, with again orange blushing over the top the head

like most labs, they are not as aggressive as pseudo.demasoni or salousi.

These strains are relatively rare to see in the trade, but usually i would import them from czech republic

hope this helps

Personally, I'd suggest rounding out your current stock instead of adding any more, or replace some of your current stock. M.callainos (cobalt zebras) are fairly aggressive (they defiantely run my 75 gal), and just two of them are likely to constantly pick on each other, so I'd suggest adding 2-3 more, same with the m.estherae (red zebras), I either rehome the single one or add at least 3 more. The p.acei should have another 1 or 2 as well.

If you go with that you'll have:
5 l.caeruleus
4 p.acei
4-5 m.callainos (1m/3-4f)
4-5 m.estherae (1m/3-4f)
Which leaves you pretty well stocked. However, if you were to rehome the they m.estherae, you could replace it with a different species.

Cynotilapia afra is a pretty cool looking species and can usually be found pretty easily.
