ive just set up a new tank and i wanna get some original ornaments for inside.is it ok to put objects in that are not designed for fish tanks?i have seen something made of stone for example can it go in?or something carved from wood maybe?obviously it would need washing thouroughly first.
also all my lfs and garden centres sell the same stock i want something different does anyone know any websites or shops that sell a wider range of ornaments/decorations?

The only prob with ornaments not designed for tanks is that they may have harmful substances which leach into water over time, or they may effect your water chemistry (e.g. with rocks).
Wooden carvings sound like they MIGHT be OK, but you would need to be very sure the wood had not been treated (e.g. linseed oil) or varnished or even just polished before you got it.
Also, you might need to file or smooth down rough/ shrap edges. That'd be annoying in a sculpture!
