Anywho, I was thinking (scary), and I've heard a lot about not keeping stingrays with any decorations. I had an idea on how it might be done:
Create a large ledge in the tank (maybe made out of piping and some plexi-glass) that would be filled with sand (or gravel) and you could put a whole bunch of plants and rocks and wood on it. That way, it could be a highly planted and decorated tank that would still have plenty of swimming room.
Not very realistic, but it might work.
Cheers,

The real answer is buy a tank that is large enough to house the rays and decorations, rays actually appreciate having some landscape in the tank, i know that my motoros enjoy chewing on the bog wood occasionally and will always dig around near them, but the size limitations of even most large tanks mean that to get the maximum swimming room you have to fore go the decor. The shelf idea is one i've always fancied doing, by siliconing a glass shelf with a lip into the back of the tank before you fill it with water you can create a shallow marginal zone which could be planted and would provide a safe area for any fry that may be born in the tank or a calm area for any fish that might be being picked on.I may even do that in my new tank.
