I have got 6 amano shrimp in my smaller tank. They have been there for 2-3 weeks now. They usually hide amongst the plants and I hardly saw them for the first week or two. Now that I think they have exhausted their food source in their hiding place, they have ventured out to the front of the tank a bit more. However I don't see all 6 at the same time, usually 2 max. They all look pretty similar so I have no idea whether I have any dead shrimp or not. Also recently I have treated my tank for ick as the fishes in the big tank had ick. The fishes in the small tank were fine but I treated it anyway as I have been moving stuff between tanks etc. I am using 1/2 dose and it is now on the second course, and the fishes still shows no signs of ick (yet).

So if shrimp dies, do they float or sink? I'm not sure there's much else I can do apart from waiting for them to come out. I doubt I'll see all 6 at the same time but boy they (and the snails) have done a great job keeping the algae away (except for the glass). I can now keep the lights on for longer thanks to them.

When 1 of ours died it sank, also the shrimp will have fed of the dead shrimp, if you had any

The shrimp will be dead on the bottom. You can't medicate a tank with shrimp, it will kill them. There are very few that can be used with shrimp and even the "safe" ones are questionable. Ich is very easy to treat and prevent without meds. Do a lot of big water changes and slowly increase the temp a couple of degrees. Even half dosing is dangerous for shrimp, I cannot stress this enough. Amano shrimp are very good at eating dead things so even if one of them died, they could easily consume the carcass within hours, shell and all. Until you actually see them all at the same time, you really won't know if you've lost any. A word of caution, shrimp can appear to survive a dose of meds, only to find them dead on the bottom days or weeks later.

Good luck with your shrimp

I thought it is the copper-containing meds that's incompatible with shrimps. The one I used has no copper. Hopefully they will be fine. At least the ones that I have seen are eating ok.
