Damn! A bit gutted today as my male Golden Ram died this morning after having him for three days.

I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why really. The female still seems absolutely fine and for the first two days both of the fish were fine - i.e. swimming, eating etc.

When I got in last night, I noticed the male was breathing seriously heavily and hence I did a water test - nitrite was 0, ammonia was a fraction above 0 and nitrates were still low (can't remember exactly the mg/l but it was in the 'fine for sensitive freshwater fish' category).

I did a water change anyway - cos I felt I had to do something - and on closer inspection of the fish I noticed that he had what can only be described as a really long, clear poo coming out of him!!! Bizarre I know but I figured all was not well...

Anyway, he was dead this morning and on looking at him, I couldn't see any obvious problems.

Anyone got any ideas?? Could he just have been so stressed he died, or was there some digestive problem? Or something else??

Any advice appreciated,

Cheers

S

Ya know, the same thing happened to me when I got a pair of rams!! I had them for about a week, maybe a little less. They seemed healthy and settled in quickly, eating etc.. and one dropped dead than the other the next day! I know that's not comforting to hear -_-

Maybe it's an internal parasite. The white/clear poo would lead me to believe so. You may want to remove the remaining ram and treat it, or perhaps treat the entire tank if you fear it spreading.

I'm sorry you're having this trouble and sorry about your fish :/

I have had a Female Kribensis in the hospital tank for 9 days now, treating the tank with Melafix. She was beginning to look a lil stressed it seemed so thats why i moved her over. For the past 9 days she will not eat and also Has the long clear poo as you mentioned. She will hide all day in the flower pot and only come out when the lights go off. 9 days later after melafix and water changes, still no improvement. No clue as to what the clear poo is caused by myself yet.
