Well my male guppy (Monkey) is dead. His tail just became shredded and looked like it fell off! At first I thought it was nipping from the new dwarf gourami I got. But after I separated the two fish the tail continued to fall off. I tried using Melafix for it but I guess it didn't help. Yesterday afternoon I came home and found Monkey tangled into one of my plants dead. At the end he had absolutely no tail left at all. I am wondering if it was something besides nipping because he had half his tail left when I separated the fish and then it kept disappearing. It hasn't affected any of my other fish though. Still, its a sad day in my tank. :-(

sorry to hear the allmighty monkey is sadly not with us, could it have been fin rot at all? which does shred the tails of guppys
sorry again

yup but finrot usually has redness on the tail like blood, it can be cured if its caught before the base of the tail

Finrot doesn't ALWAYS happen. Unfortunately for me it hit my male guppy. I still think that his tail was nipped and that lead to his downfall. But to add a little happiness to a sad story, last night after I got home from work I found some little guppy fry had been born to my female. So even though I lost Monkey the Guppy his genetics will live on in further generations of guppies that will be named Monkey. :fish:

I asked my lfs and they said the guppies do lose tails when they die (after death)
I bought some finrot meds just incase my platies get in trouble
