yesterday i took home 2 female guppies, one of which was already pregnant and was very rounded colourful and large, the other was elongated its fins were small and it was giving me a feeling it was a runt, -
upon putting them in the tank they schooled happily with my other 5 males, and after a few hrs at night my small female seperated itself from the schoal and began to hide behing my pump motor, occassionally it would come out and one pf my male guppies would accompany it, then later at night it began to go to sleep like the rest of my guppies however it was sleedping upright with its mouth facing up and was strugglig to keep balance,
in the morning it was dead
the other guppy was fine,
where did i go wrong?
my water results are fine for guppies, there is no overstocking, it wasnt lonely, i didnt feed it, so can someone tell me what went wong?
or was this just the outcome of buying a runted cheap 3.50 inbred fish? AUS (rougly 2 american)

If it was a runt, it probably was weak and died from stress.

I now make it a point to look at the fish closely when they net it out of the tank and put it in the little plastic container. Its easier to see than when its bagged. That way your chances of taking home healthier stock are greater and its easier for the employee to get you a different if you don't like it.

5 males + 2 females = harrased and dead females....

1 male to 2-3 females is the ratio to stick to. (either that or go all males or all females).

i reckon it was a runt cos the males are more obsessed with their own reflections
