Dead Fish!

Well, a week ago from today, I brought my Male Yellow Lab to a club meeting and he one first in the bowl show. He was extremely healthy and vigorous. Well, I put him back in the tank, used stress coat, and he was fine. He's been eating everyday, and hasn't shown signs of illness. Well, I just go home from school, and he is dead. He was just lying on the tank bottom, without any torn fins or anything. But he is very bloated. But it's not like pine cone bloat. He's just bloated. Here are two pic's.

I checked my water (I did a water change last night, dechlorinator was used), and my stats are as of now, Ammonia 0, NitrIte 0, NitrAte 10. What could this be? He was my prized lab?

Thanks =[ . Im just worried about what killed him, and if my other labs can get it. I highly doubt it was bloat because my water is wonderful for labs, the other ones don't have it, he's still been eating, and he was healthy enough to win 1st place last week.

I am sure wilder will want to know what size tank he was is and what other species fish you had in there. Along with what you were feeding them?

When you added him back to the tank did you match ph and temp.

What do you feed the fish.
How old was he.
What did it look like when he went to the toilet.

Shows can be stressful for fish.

Bloated? Were his scales sticking straight out? If so, dropsy.

The scales were not sticking out according to krib.

Bloating can be dropsy, swim bladder, constipation, internal parasites.

I did match the temp and pH. I feed them Spirulina Pellets and African Attack Pellets. I bought him from a local breeder last Jan. He wasn't mature then. He's probably 2 years old. I never saw him use the bathroom (there are a lot of rocks, so it's hard to see the fish).

The diet could do with improving with frozen foods and veg.
Also check a fish diet needs to see if you are meeting there requirements.

I checked. The diet is the right one. I occasionally feed frozen. But they are prone to getting Bloat, so I don't feed it often.

To many fried foods, freeze dried foods, and bloodworms can cause bloating.

The strange thing is, I haven't fed them any frozen , fried, or freeze dried foods in about 3 to 4 weeks. I not longer.

Do you soak the pellets in tank water before you let the fish eat them.
Frozen foods like brime shrimp and daphnia are good.

Sorry to read you lost your Lab, I know you were being so carefull with the planning pre-show!

Afraid it looks like Malawi Bloat... normally caused by too much protein in the diet

That's what I, Think it is. But, I have been feeding them the same thing for the past 9 months! Why now?
