I have a 4 inch green terror in with three cories, there had been only one cory for about a month and i recently added another two. I had not seen any aggression toward the cories, the terror just seemed to ignore them. Today i found one dead, it has a red spot on its side, what changed? why would the green terror attack only one, he did not attempt to eat it... there are no bite marks, what went wrong?

Hi GreenEyedTerror :)

It sounds like it developed a bacterial infection. This is the most common cause of death in corys and could be the result of any of a number of things.

Since your corys was relatively new, it might have had the beginning of this when you bought him. Some bacterial infections develop more quickly than others. Or, it might have been caused by poor water quality due to elevated nitrites, ammonia, low oxygen content, uneaten food, etc. It's also quite likely that the sheer stress caused by being alone with a potentially dangerous tankmate caused his immune system to weaken and left him susceptible to and infection by bacteria he would have otherwise been OK with.

one of the new corys died, not the one that had been alone, the other two seem to be acting normally, the one that died had a red spot under the skin on one of its sides (i looked at it today for her). We actually picked it up from Aqua Hut on Wednesday, I might see if we can bring it back for a refund/replacement tomorrow :)

Remember to take a sample of your tank water in with you or they probably won't give you a refund/replacement.
