dead betta

Hi, I had a betta male in my tank with neons, guppies, pimleodella angelicus catfish x1, palty's, swordtail and 2 albino catfish. we noticed that all his tail fins had been nipped of, we read that he would pull through and that his fins would grow back. we added anti stress to the water but he died. Is this normal? and what of my fishy's would have nipped all his fins off? I dont think i will get another betta until i can understand what fishy's nipped him.

I have just read another post about betta's in a communtiy tank and I feel really bad. I had all the wrong fish in with my betta. I only did this purely on the advise from my LFS as they had betta's in with guppies and neons. Our betta was beautiful when we got him and seemed really happy. But I feel really terrible as he was a mess obviously our neons or guppies attacked him and he died. Most of my guppies have gone too, I dont know whats happening in my tank because I dont have angelfish that eat wee fishy's.

In my experience never, ever keep a betta with neons. The first one i had ever was nipped and died over night.
My current betta is with mollies, platies, guppies, catfish and a pleco and they all get on fine.
Like ive said in the past i strongly think it depends on the individual personality of the betta, some dont mind being with other fish and some prefer to be on their own

Let's see...the neons and guppies probably got at your betta, and if you're losing guppies, the betta may have gone after them and they've got damage from that. I would definitely recommend not keeping a betta in that tank unless several of the fish are rehomed. If you're still losing fish, you might want to post your test parameters, although I suspect that it was the betta that was the source of most of the problem. I'm sorry for your loss.
