Spent a day at Lake Meredith today.... it was really nice, if kinda windy. Got to feed all the carp and channel cats at the marina and wow, they have some BIG carp. I'm not sure on the length of these guys, but some of em had fist-sized mouths. Also saw a MASSIVE school of unidentified fish... there were probably at least a thousand of them in one school. Little 6 inch silver guys with a black dot just below their head. It was a lot of fun listening to them gulping at the surface. (I bought a bag of the cheap koi food because I didn't want to give them the popcorn that the store sells... not too sure how good popcorn is for common carp...) I wasn't expecting them to be out today because the water was INCREDIBLEY cold. I didn't think they would be out eating with it being so cold. But they were there and violently fighting the seagulls for the pellets  (Yes, I'm in the Texas panhandle. No, we're not by the sea. Yes, we have seagulls. No, I don't know what's wrong with this place.)

Kind of a pointless post, but it was a fun day with the coldwater fish. Any of you live by a decently sized lake?

I'd love to live near a lake or the sea :)
Sounds like you had a good day out

I know koi like corn ,we sometimes give it to out fish, did you take any photos?

We have two huge gravel pit lakes just over the road from us and a small river running along them, not bad for swimming, but I shouldn't think theres much in the way of fish there.

I'll definitely be bringing a camera next time. It's a really neat thing to see. I mean, the carp weren't much in variety of color like market koi are, but they're still really really neat looking.

Expect pictures maybe in a couple weeks (once this snow storm goes away, cause it's not March or anything... )

:D
