KK, Today I went to the oriental market to pick up a few things that I needed. I ended up buying only one thing and a few chips for my stomach ^_^. Anyways, I picked up Frozen Seafood Medley which comes with a cobination of fully cooked farm raised mussel meat, fully cooked clam meat, blanched squids, blanched shrimp, blanched octupus, and fully cooked surimi. I have no idea what blanched means and what surmi is. So if anyone wants to help me with that one :D . Yeah, so im guessing surmi is the imitation crab which I took out. I blended it using my black and decker blender brought to you by home depot. When it was done it looks gross and smelled gross. But when I put it in my tank my fish loved it. The clowns were struggling a bit with the bigger pieces so I need to blend it better next time. My bangaii cardinals didn't have any problem with the big pieces since the gobbled it up  . So if anyone has any experiences with home made food and helping me in finding out what blanched and surmi is please reply down below :good:

I believe 'blanched' means 'steamed' or 'ran under hot water'. :good:

I have no doubts that your fish love the new food  but do not replace their other food completely. It's not very natural for a Cardinal or a Clownfish to be eating squid and clam :S Cooked food also tends to have a lowered nutrient content.

LOL, Yeah today Im going to the LFS and get some mysis or something.

Add garlic to that stuff and it will help boost the imune system of the fish also get some nori sheets that are used to make sushi and add that to the blender

technically when you blanch food you put it in boiling hot water for a short period of time to part cook it, then place it immediately in some cold water to stop the cooking process, this enables you to the finish off the cooking in just a minute or so when your nearly ready to serve your food. prevents soggy overcooked veggies etc.

in reality this isn't often done, it just refers to cooking something in boiling water for a very brief period of time.

:)

Garlic does not enhance the fishes' immune system; it reportedly makes the fish taste badly to potential parasites. :)

Be carefull, as most of that food is very high in proteins & will quickly pollute you tank

Add small peices & not very often

Also, it can produce a film on the water's surface that will inhibit oxygen exchange. I have woke up in the morning to find that all the fish are breathing heavily. A surface skimmer or overflow box will prevent this problem.
