Darwin Red Nosed Shrimp

For once a couple of my Darwin Red Nosed Shrimp where abliging and stayed around for some photos

 . I am also pleased to say I finally saw one of the females berried, so hopefully soon I will have another generation of these guys hovering about my tank.

Pinocchio shrimp!

That is one of the common names of a similar shrimp found in Indo-Asia. But my native guys breed in fresh water with no brackish for the larval young.

When you get yours TallTree, you will be amazed at how their body spots seem to just glow, and their unusual swimming style.

Congratulations, keep us posted if you are successful is raising a second generation.  Interesting they do not need brackish water to breed, I need to look out for some of these!

Good looking shrimp. Are the eggs on the berried female quite large?

Not hugely large, but with breeding in captivity they get easier to breed and raise.

I managed to get a pic of one of my berried females. Hopefully soon I will start seeing a few more of these guys getting about in the tank. But it is pretty over grown so its pot luck when I can find them out in the open.

Wow. Those red-nose eggs look much bigger than the ones we get over here. I believe you that the young don't need a saltwater stage, would love to see some babies when you get them!

Great stuff and am also a little surprised you don't need brackish waters for these to breed.

Thanks for the encouragement, I will try to keep adding pictures of the red noses especially if I locate any young. But the tank really is over grown with a huge hollow log, so it really is a hit and miss affair shrimp spotting in the tank. And I don't really dare trim the plants too much because the spotted blue eyes spawn in them.
