Hi im not sure about water fleas but if you fill a bowl or bucket with water in the garden it will fill with mosqito larve within a couple of days just net them and feed them straight to your fish i do this while the weathers warm they love it.

Hey there,

Daphnia won't just 'appear' out of thin air :)

If you have access to a pand, or very slow moving water way, then your idea of lettuce leaf/green matter and water in some sunlight will work fine (strain/fine seive some pond water, and add contents to your prepared aquarium). It still takes a bit of time for them to reproduce.

If your after diatoms/infusoria (tiny tiny foods) then the old potato cubes in a large glass jar filled with water on a window sill will also work.

If you need food desperately, I reccomend dried egg yolk (use sparingly, syphon up uneaten food after 10 mins) and tetra min tiny food.

Hope that helps!
