Hey guys just a quick question.

Which do you reckon I should choose to cycle my tank?

Also I plan to use live plants, will they start the cycle so add the fish after or what?

Any tips welcome :)

Ben

i wouldnt recomend guppies tbh.

danios will be fine as will platties or black widow tetras

1 fish for every 5 gallons or water.

I'm going to sound like a hypocrite :*) , but if you haven't started cycling your tank yet I really recommend doing a fishless cycle. I know it's hard to wait, but in the long run it will pay off. I'm 3 1/2 weeks into cycling my tank with danios. I used Cycle, but it still looks like it will be a while until I can add anymore fish. A fishless cycle can be completed in two weeks and then you can fully stock your tank all at once. Check out the following article for details.

Incidentally, my danios are very happy. :D I recommend them if you don't do a fishless cycle.

My tanks did well without cycling without fish.

I'd not suggest starting with tetras because they don't do well in uncycled tanks. I'd suggest danios or just fishless cycling.

Csn you provide for or want livebearers, because they aren't that bad as starter fish. Actually, my guppies are hardier than my danios.

black widow tetra are one of the most hardy fish there is.. along with danios and platties like i mentioned ;)

Well my levels are ok and my 5 gallon cycled very quickly with 2 platies to start off with.

I shall probably go for a small group of danios to help cycle with.

I also read about cycling with plants but this may be too complicated for me I think!
