I'm cycling a 55 gallon tank with 10 zebra danios (ok one of them is a leopard but he thinks he's a zebra). At first they schooled together...maybe for the first 2 days...but now its going on their 3rd week and they have long since distributed evenly throughout the tank....chasing each other or anyone who comes into their "turf".

If I keep these fish in there and add some rainbows, platies, and cories...are these fish gonna pick on them.....do I just need more danios to bring them "down" a bit and are they ever going to school around the tank again?

If there is any possibility of them not being peaceful in this community tank I'll take them out and trade them in.

If more will solve the problem...how many should I get?

Thanks!!

David

10 is a nice shoal of zebras actually. I'm afraid this is simply their natural behavior. They're very active and playful fish. I've had mine in a community tank for a long time without any problems. They'll simply chase eachother and leave all the other fish alone. I have however heard of people having problems with their danios and them chasing other fish.

Personally though, I think you'll be fine.

So far I have kept zebra, choprae and roseus danios- they are all always in frantic motion- so much so I have never been able to get a clear pic of them.

As erised has said
perfectly normal danio behaviour
you are doing everything right by having a large group
