I've just been reading the post on the British weather:

One of my Pearl Danios died today - whilst I was watching :-(

I was just about to feed them and one started to swim about crazily, he turned upside down, swam into the middle of a plant and expired on the spot. It was wierd. I couldn't see any marks on the body and all the other danios still look ok - could it have been the heat (about 28 degrees C)

I have also been looking at the Community Creator on Thinkfish.co.uk and for my tank it says there's an incompatible mix - because Zebra Danios have a temperature range up to 24 degrees C, whilst the rams and chain loaches need a minimum of 25.

It wasn't a Zebra that died, though, it was a Pearl (max. 26 degrees)

Does anyone else keep their Zebra Danios at 26 (verging on 29 to 30 in the summer).

I've had them for about 18 months and have never noticed any strange behaviour in the heat before.

i keep mine at twenty six but theyve been at that temp since they were born (home bred)

mines used to be kept at a constant 28 and they were happy at that.

Oh well - it's not just me then. Survivors all look happy still today. Perhaps it was just his time. Thanks for replies.

Danio albolineatus do best in a temp range of 20-25c / 68-77f
they will tollerate higher temps for short periods (a week or so) but if it is too high for too long then they will start dieing off.

some good ways to lower you tanks temp are
1 ) float ice in a bottle on the surface, replacing as the ice has melted
2 ) aim a desk(top) fan at the front glass pannel (this draws cool air over it and draws heat out through the glass. it can also be aimed at the surface water but this would require the lid to be open which I'd not recomend with danios.

3) leave your lights off during the day

Thanks Wolf

I've turned the lights off but the room temp is now 27c, so no chance of keeping tank temp down. I'll look for a fan tomorrow -could do with one for me. :D

What about Brachydanio rerio, (or is it Danio rerio) though. In normal English weather can they be kept at 26c permanently?

although the ideal temp range for danio rerio is 18-24c they can do well in 26c. I have my ZDs in 26c with no problems
