hi & help
just noticed one of our leopard danios has a red lump about 2mm big halfway down its side. it doesnt look like an injury more like a teenagers spot (or is it pimple in the usa???) ive put melafix in but not sure what else to do. the afflicted danio otherwise looks quite happy - eating, zooming around etc. we've had him in our tank for about a year & our tank has been up & running for about 15 months. all params ok ie: 0 ammonia,0nitrite,20 nitrate,pH7.8 temp at mo 25C.
any suggestions most welcome
thanks

It sounds like the start of an ulcer. If not delt with swiftly it can lead to a secondry infection of fungus.
To treat use a general bacterial medication. Ulcers are caused by bacteria and you need to treat the whole tank as more than one fish can have them even if no signs are present yet. The ulcer should be cleared up within 2-3 weeks.
If it not then the chances are it is untreatable and you will loose the fish(ies)
The survival rate of ulcers is around 95%, so it is more than likely to survive.
Good luck and rest easy.
P.s. apart from helping with the stress melafix really won't do much in this case.

One of my gourami also had a spot like thing, a red pop up sore area with a white 'head'. My lfs didnt know what it was so I just kept up with water changes and kept an eye on it. It cleared up on its own...
